Caring For Your New Costume

Avoid sitting directly on rough surfaces such as concrete, scuffed dance floors or surfaces that may catch or snag the fabric.

Keep the garment free from direct contact with sunscreens, make-up, perfume, and harsh deodorants to prevent fabric damage.

Preferably spot wash only as needed, focusing mainly on the underarm and crotch areas.

If a full wash is necessary, gently swish the garment in cool water with a mild detergent. Gently squeeze out the suds without rubbing, wringing, or twisting.​

Do not machine wash or dry clean, especially costumes with added decor, beads, appliqués, or rhinestones.

Do not bleach, soak, iron, or tumble dry.

Never roll up or store the costume while wet.

Never put a costume in the dryer. High heat can melt synthetic materials, shrink fabrics, and ruin spandex stretch. 

Gently blot out excess moisture with clean, light coloured towels. 

For heavier garments, particularly those that are heavily rhinestoned, avoid hanging them by the straps or neckband while drying. Instead drape them over the hanger at the waist to avoid stretching out the straps.

Never store your costume when wet, even if it wasn't washed, air out the garment in a shaded space before storing, especially in hot or humid climates. 

To preserve the condition of the costume, store in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or deterioration, preferably in a garment bag.
